Our chapter Speaker Policies – What to Expect
  • When discussing a problem, we expect our speakers to also discuss solutions. We are here to help educate members on growing their own various fruit trees & edible plants.
  • All speakers’ talks will be posted on the chapter’s Youtube Channel sometime after the meeting. Note that the meeting recording may be edited (usually to remove unimportant parts or dead space) and topic presenters will have the opportunity to approve their content prior to posting.
  • The video of the meeting recording is property of the South Orange County CRFG Chapter and the presenter. The presenter will be given the digital recording of the meeting to use at their discretion.

Requests to Members
  • Please feel free to suggest topics and/or presenters for our future chapter meetings!
    • If you know someone who might be interested or who you would like to learn from, please let us know. At this time, we are a dirt poor chapter and we cannot pay speakers. We look forward to when we can afford dirt, then upgrade it to soil! Even with this limitation, we intend to provide informative and interesting meetings. 🙂
  • Please let us know if you are interested in helping out with the chapter by contacting us at info1@southoccrfg.org

On Saturday February 11th we will be having our annual Scion wood exchange event.

This will be done differently than our prior scion wood / grafting events and different from any other Orange County Chapter in the past.

Scion wood / cutting can be dropped off at Frank’s Lake Forest address prior to the day of the event or on the day of the event as early as 9am at the Farm Food Lab in Irvine.. We will be pre printing labels for each scion wood , and will have them prepared prior to the event. We still have some labels left over from last year, so less work .

Fill out the registration page (Below) with the Scion wood / Cuttings planning to bring.

Note- on the event location some members noted it can be difficult for find with mapping software since the park is so large. So… We drove from different directions to the location while recording a video of how to get there. . we will be posting them on our website soon to aid everyone. At 10:00 we will be making scion wood available to members of the South OC chapter At 10:30 am Other chapters and the public  who have brought items to the exchange will be able to get cuttings / other stuff. Beginning the 11:00 am everyone else. Beginning at 12:00 , we will have a brief description of how to graft avocado seedlings. After that, we will have participants graft cuttings onto avocado seedlings that we will be supplying. There will be mentor grafters going around to answer questions and to critique the grafting methods. Our goal is to increase hands-on knowledge by members of grafting period . Prior to the event we will also release a video describing possible issues to expect when grafting, this way more people are prepared ahead of time and make better use of the instructions. If you or someone you know is good at grafting or even another different method of propagating plants and want to speak or answer questions at the event, let us know. Grafting mentors get 3 to 5 Gallons of worm castings. We expect a large turnout at the event. We are asking members to make available scion wood / cuttings of known varieties NO citrus cuttings please ( there is a citrus Quarantine due to a disease that kills citrus trees. We will be releasing more information as the time approaches to people who have registered , we recommend you put it on your calendar. It will be a great time to meet other members. We have had feedback the Orange County Great Park Farm + Food Lab in the Irvine Great Park can be difficult to find the 1st time going there, so we made videos of driving there from different directions. They will be on out website soon.t.

This Free Event is open to the public. Registration recommended
